Congratulations!

You have taken the first step in improving your life!

How to choose the right therapist for your needs:

Each therapist is unique in terms of training, skills, specialties, and personalities. The hope is a therapist and client will just click. However, sometimes it takes a little time to find the right therapist to meet your needs. It is important for you to feel safe and comfortable sharing.

Consultation: What to Expect

During the 15-minute consultation, you will have the opportunity to meet with Stefanie and ask questions. Stefanie will gather basic information to help determine if she has the right skill set to help you.

Can I be friends with my therapist? Therapy can feel like a friendship, however, it is a professional relationship. Stefanie will not Google client information to find out more than a client shares in session. What you choose to share is your choice. Therapy is not advice giving or coaching. Therapy is a specialized skill set that requires usually a total of 6 years of education (master's level), 2000-3000 hours of supervised practice in a professional setting, and passing a state board exam that can take up to 4 hours to complete. Many therapists go on to gather even higher levels of credentialing. Additionally, licensed mental health providers are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

My spouse is pressuring me to go to therapy, but I don't really want to go. What should I do? Being willing to start a professional therapeutic relationship is a key step for your recovery and well-being. Therapy works better if it is your decision, and you are motivated for treatment. A therapist can help you identify goals and then create a customized treatment plan to help you achieve those goals.

Stefanie will gather personal contact information and an emergency contact, should there be a serious safety concern.
